My New Vice?

My New Vice?

Last week, I took a 4-day plein air workshop (AKA painting outdoors) to get up to speed on painting landscapes directly from life.  It seems to have worked.  Here is one of 15 or so panels completed in those 4 days (click on the image to enlarge).  It’s turned into a lot of fun.  I can’t wait to head back outside today.

So now what?  Well, the Group of Seven (my main inspiration for landscape painting) started as an informal group of artists and designers that held regular weekend plein air sessions where they would head to the then-rural outskirts of Toronto, spend a few hours painting and then chat about what they were learning, needed to know, etc.

It might be fun to get a small group together to do that on a regular basis.  If you’re interested (or know someone who might be) let me know.

Thanks!  (And I’ll keep you up to date on the next open studio in October.)
