Welcoming the New Year. . .Unstuck in Time

The New Year makes me think of the way time passes. . . or doesn’t.

I’ve essentially spent my whole life in New Paltz. Living in one place like that, you don’t pass through time. It accumulates around you, leaving you floating in it, unstuck in time. You can read this for more details.

The rough sketch shown here is an attempt to illustrate “unstucked-ness.” It is the Wallkill River bridge in a snow storm circa 2020. The truck crossing the bridge is my dad’s Chevy Apache panel truck from sixty years earlier. The linear, transient world claims these two things cannot coexist.

Nice try.

Happy New Year!
