Something new along with holiday giving ideas

Breaking news from the arts world (or at least my little corner of it)! A couple of weeks ago, I took a painting workshop with Dominik Modlinski at the McMichael Gallery. Dominik is based on the west coast of Canada and his work focuses on dramatic northern landscapes. As you can see, he makes creative use of color to capture the light in these landscapes.

This sketch was completed during the workshop, based on a reference photo he brought from British Columbia. (Click on the image to enlarge.) It was a great learning experience and I’m trying to incorporate some of what we covered in a painting of a beaver pond in the Millbrook Preserve. It’s been a challenge. But it is coming along and I’m happy to report I haven’t thrown my brush at the canvas once. We’ll see what happens.
