More News from Nowhere: Day of the Wedding

In April, I mentioned that I’ve started a new series of paintings “News from Nowhere” inspired by William Morris’s novel of that title. It began with “At the Kitchen Party.” The idea is to capture people engaged in activities that put them in touch with one another, rather than tying them to machines.

“Day of the Wedding,” (shown here) is the latest in the series.  A bride is being prepared for the ceremony by her hair stylist.  Close observers might notice that the stylist is based upon Brigette Lewis, the proprietor of Suite 124 Salon and Signature Braids.  Brigette was kind enough to provide me with reference photos so I could paint this picture. While this painting has sold, it will be on display at the open studio coming up on June 2, (4-7PM) and June 3 (3-6PM).  There will be other portraits and many landscapes on display.
