Minnewaska—the Wilderness that almost Wasn’t

I love painting scenes from Minnewaska State Park.  It is about 10 miles from my house.  This painting is titled “Above Lake Minnewaska” as tribute to the Group of Seven’s legacy as described in my last post

Many visitors don’t realize that this bastion of apparently pristine wilderness once had two mammoth hotels right along the lake that attracted thousands of visitors.  And in the early 1980s, there was a huge battle to prevent Marriott from building a massive resort on the lake.  Follow this link to learn more about the Lake’s glorious—and surprising—past.
