A resident of New Paltz, NY for almost his entire life, Peter Fairweather has been drawing and painting landscapes in the Hudson Valley, Central Vermont and Massachusetts for over 30 years. In his twenties, he became acquainted with the work of the Canadian landscape painters known as the Group of Seven whose work sought to capture the spirit of the northern wilderness. Drawing inspiration from them, Peter’s work seeks to record the experience of living in a landscape that is more pastoral but equally beautiful: New Paltz and its environs.
He has studied with noted Canadian painters
