Strange Beauty

Strange Beauty

Age and experience bring with them a new understanding of life, don’t they?  Those aspects we thought permanent and secure can suddenly vanish.  Where does that leave us?  What can we depend on?  Despite such losses, the universe still seems to hold hints of a transcendent beauty and order.  As Emerson noted, “There in the mud and scum of things, always, always something sings.”

We all do what we can to honor that gift.  This painting of an early spring storm on the beaver pond in the Millbrook Preserve tries to capture how strange beauty can emerge from darkness (click on image to enlarge).
