15 Apr A most unlikely source for lively conversation
In my youth, cemeteries always seemed like such a waste of space. But now, a walk through the New Paltz Rural Cemetery can conjure up all sorts of conversations with all kinds of people. (Click on the image to enlarge.) I can go into the gates feeling the press of events on my solitary soul. I leave feeling part of a multi-generational attempt to come to terms with this world.
Maybe our forebears have always been up for this chat, and I’m just now learning how to join in. In any case, life is much richer with them in the conversation.
Our frantic tech-driven lives might benefit from an occasional touch of eternity. It is good to know that there are folks available to lend a hand.
We just have to ask.
